Due to the amount of spam posts we have been receiving we have decided that the only course of action we can take is to update the forum software we use. This will be done sometime in January 2010
We have put off this situation as the existing forum posts will not be compatible (And therefore lost). We are therefore giving warning that if you want to save past topics to copy and save them.

Disaster
This is on a par with the destruction of the great library at Alexandria
To think that that all this accumulated wisdom will be lost. No more evenings spent leafing through Dolly's shameless self-publicity, Mr Heckles acerbic commentaries on our human foibles, Penny's common sense, Scotty's music taste, Jo's limericks etc.
Surely this must be saved for the nation? Perhaps a grant from the National Lottery?
Let's start a campaign

How about re-visiting and bringing back some of the old topics and put them on the forum home page before they disappear. That's if they're worth looking at again of course.
I can't think of any myself, but some of you might have a better memory than me.

Topic re starting may be something that the individual users will have to do.

It may be a shame that older posts are lost, but as it stands, Spam has overwhelmed this forum, and it has become almost totally useless. Most regulars aren't even bothering to post anymore, and why would they? Legit posts are soon buried under the dross.
The sooner new software is in place, with a new forum, the better. Nostalgia for older posts has to give way for current and future usefulness.

Agree with Ben here. I usually browse the forums in the early hours of the morning and all I see on plink is spam... every single time!
Can't wait for the new improved punterlink

I believe it is time for a change. The spam has gotten way out of hand . Interesting posts are being driven from the main screen. We are being deprived of the witty repartee of our many contributors. especially Mr Heckles ( whose anchovy & grape nuts are being strangled by his 'g' string or is it his thong).

Totaly agree with Mr Moose. You cannot move on here for junk !! All the fun posters have vanished, everyone seems to be put off by the tons of spam. You have to search now for an up to date topic to read. None of the regular posters seem to post on here now. It is such a shame, but as normal the minority want to spoil things for the majority.
Stay frosty

I would suggest people start copying any posts they want to keep to repost.
And a list of any topics you want to restart.

I agree with everyone else it is past a joke now with the continual spam on here, the mods just can't keep up with it and as soon as one batch of spam posts are deleted another batch appears.
It will be a shame to lose the forum in it's present form and start from scratch again, but the spam has no doubt put a lot of regular contributors off posting lately and the forum is slowly coming to a standstill.
I'm too old to have an ego to boost so losing my thread count doesn't bother me.......might try and clock up 2000 though before the switch over.
What does concern me though is that a lot of people just won't bother to rejoin and old familiar nicknames on here will be lost forever......don't worry Kallek I won't nick your nick.
How's it gonna work Mr Punterlink ??......will we all have to rejoin with new usernames, or will existing usernames and login details remain the same but it will be just a new blank canvas for us to scribble on.
Can't believe i've been on here as long as I have.......it will be nice to lose being reminded of that all the time.

The ability to save all PMs for example would be helpful... I can't really see anyone wanting to save their posts if they have more than a handful (too laborious).
How about making the exisitng main fora read only? If only for posterity.

Must agree with all everybody has said, the spam is so bad now I often just log in as guest rather than under my name to see if there is anything interesting. This has also happened to a music forum I belong to so its a big problem all round.
Let us know what we have to do to ensure we can join the new forum when its up & running
