Do sporting events really increase trafficking?

Events such as the Euro or the Olympics. Does it increase prostitution in general and if so does it increase the underground trafficking of women? Is there any actual evidence of this?

You might have noticed a group called "femen" in Ukraine who did some protesting against the Euro claiming it was increasing trafficking (the protests involve taking their tops off and chanting "fu*ck euro" and then screaming and pretending they are being raped when the police take them away- it's a bit cringeworthy to watch so I won't even post any links).

Just curiosity. I've read a few media articles about prostitution (who are clearly against prostitution and want it criminalized) and one thing that comes up a few times is they say major sporting events increase the demand and increase trafficking and sex tourism etc etc. I'm wondering how much truth is in this.

But from the other perspective not all visitors to London will be single men there will be a lot of families. And with all the extra traffic it might be more difficult for sex workers and clients to travel to each other.

We have a couple of big races on around here in Cheltenham, enquiry about an alleged problem with prostiution going on at the moment, another politition wants some moral highground. There has been trafficking in the area of illegals, and they have fortunately been rounded up, more likely to have been used as cheap labor, rather than prostitutes.

Here in the States, the city that hosts a major sporting or political event gets the general 'scrub down' on criminal activity, rounding up the streetwalkers and stick up kids, thinking it cuts down on travelers mingling with local trash. Hotels check local escort advertisements to check for traveling girls, but the arrest numbers don't ever go above normal, and very rarely with travelers.
