Good, bad, why not share!
by Keane » Monday, 9 June 2008 19:54:23
Well, I've had an interesting day [eh-hem!]
I did a small task for a WG and she insisted that she wanted to meet me to thank me. She is a very attractive and sexy looking young lady (significantly below the age limit I usual set for myself) and well out of my price range. So we compromissed on sharing lunch i.e. not a chargeable visit.
Well, today was the day! It involved a train ride into London, so was an all day outing specifically for 'lunch'.
I arrived at the tube station and phoned - her phone was off - bad sign!
I sent a text which was delivered 20 minutes later followed by a reply "Oh my, have an appointment. Will call you". Is that good or bad - not sure yet. After all, our lunch date was a freeby and a chargeable job is money in the bank. Set a time limit and wait.
30 minutes later another text "Sorry **** was underground. Thus missed your calls." - Underground? In the tube (train system)? I thought the delay was due to a client?
I phoned again - made a connection and the call dropped out (sounded like very bad signal her end)
Sent text "Are you OK for a call?"
Received text "Yes. Please call me in 20" - Maybe she needs time to get cleaned up?
Phoned 30 minutes later - (still a very bad signal, couldn't hear properly) couldn't make out what she was doing earlier (didn't sound like a client) and she has now moved her hairdresser's appointment from tomorrow to NOW! How long will I be in London? - Not long enough to wait while she goes to the hairdresser's!
That's just taking the mick - Visit abandoned.
I can understand that sometimes it is necessary to change our plans, but was it really necessary to keep me loitering around for one and a half hours before telling me? Guess who's feeling like a silly old fool (with emphasis on the 'OLD')!! Could it even have been some sort of deiberate joke?
This sounds broadly in line with a sentiment I shared a day or so ago (from my son) that some attractive people treat the rest of us with contempt because they feel superior to us. Or am I just getting bitter now?
Well, there was a bit of time left, so I popped into the Natural History Museum for a couple of hours before I went back, so the day wasn't entirely wasted!

Sorry to hear you had a wasted day and journey. Shame she couldn't havejet you know before you left to meet her. Like you saud you would understand if she got held up with a client, but to keep you waiting and then not to meet you at all when it was her idea does seem a bit off.
I hope you made the most of your wasted day and enjoyed the sights and the Natural History Museum.
Take care,
Imogen xxx

Thanks, Imogen.
To be fair, I had a bad feeling about it before I went - I thought it was because of the large age difference, so I used a spare SIM card in my mobile so she won't be able to pester me at work. Possibly a bit sly, but it has never even crossed my mind to do that before, so mabe I was forewarned? Maybe I should have taken more notice? !!

Sorry to hear that Keane !
It's no fun to be stood up, I know
Tbh I think an appointment is an appointment, paid or not, small or big age difference..... that's irrelevant !!
And if a "force majeure" should make it impossible to keep the appointment, the least thing one can do is to call or text and say "sorry, I can't make it because.......". That's what I would have done, that's what you would have done, right ?
And you're right Keane, the Natural History Museum is great ! I don't get tired of going there, well except my feet maybe....

Thanks, Kallek.
I agree with you but didn't want to labour that angle - 'cos I usually get accused of being pernickerty and legalistic!

I live by the code of treat others how you would like to be treated. Doesnt always work mind you but at least Ive got nothing to feel sorry for.
Sorry you were let down in this way Keane, I hope the lady concerned apologies.
Hugs

Thank you Penny and Rhia.
It is comforting to receive people’s overwhelming support. As it was a freebie and [eh-hem] in view of the large age difference, I did wonder if I would get a few "Well, what did you expect ...... ?" type comments. Maybe I'm not quite as daft as I felt (I did say 'maybe'!)
As for an apology, well, there wasn't exactly an apology in the one phone conversation we had, but there was an offer to try again some other day! [Excuse me for feeling a little sceptical here!] and she even offered to travel down to the wilds of Sussex to meet me. Somehow I can't see that one being a freebie, and if I can't afford her incall prices ...... !

Just checked my spare SIM card - she sent an apology by text message late on Monday evening (the day we were supposed to meet). So you were right, Penny.

( . . . . . . . . . Does she mean me or the WG?)
If we ignore the story about some guy who wants to be electrocuted, the sentiment sounds exactly the same as my wife's favorite rant.
Has my wife infiltrated this site? . . . . What a scary thought!
